Let’s do an exercise that I think can be meaningful.

Take a moment to gather some sticky notes.

Make a list of the names of the people you turn to for advice when you need it before making a significant decision.

These are the cherished souls who truly understand you, inspire you, and have your best interests at heart.

When you look at those names on your sticky notes, you’ll notice a beautiful truth.

Celebrities, radio personalities, news anchors or Instagram influencers who fill our screens with their opinions every day, or even most of your extended family members, sports stars, rockstars, or bloggers, may not have made the cut on your list.

And that’s absolutely fine. This exercise is about acknowledging the select few who hold significance in your life.

Those who made it on your list are remarkable individuals, your pillars of support, your trusted confidants, and your sound board.

While your uncle may not be famous, he is a reliable source of sound advice. A friend who doesn’t have a lot of followers on LinkedIn probably understands you better than complete strangers online.

These people on your list possess a deep understanding of who you are and what you aspire to become.

Their opinions matter to you because they have proven their care and investment in your journey.

And then there is the noise out there that often surrounds us.

It’s important to keep in mind that the voices and pressures of others, no matter how loud or powerful they seem, do not determine how you make decisions.

Let compassion and respect guide your response when confronted with such noise.

The world is filled with an abundance of voices, each seeking to be heard. However, it’s crucial to recognise that these external influences may not truly comprehend your unique circumstances or share your values.

They are merely distant echoes, trying to find resonance in a place where they don’t belong.

Embrace the power of those on your sticky notes, as you navigate through life’s twists and turns.

Honour the voices that genuinely matter, for they have earned their place in your heart.

By releasing the need for validation from those who don’t hold such significance, you free yourself to embrace your authentic self and follow your own remarkable path.

In the words of the insightful Robert Frost:

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by.”

Let the wisdom and love of your chosen few be your guiding light.

Stay true to their influence, trust your inner voice, and embark on a journey filled with compassion, authenticity, and personal growth.
