The top photo is the famous photo taken at the 5th Solvay Conference on Quantum Mechanics in 1927. It was dubbed the smartest people ever assembled in 1 photo. 17 of them are Noble Prize winners. Einstein is in the middle and Marie Curie is three [3] seats from the left.

Marie Skodowska Curie won prizes in 2 separate scientific disciplines, still the only person to have done so.

Ninety years after the famous photograph of the 1927 Solvay conference [top pic], the University of Trento and the Italian Physical Society created a more modern picture [pic below]: a new photo showing 28 women and one man [former CMS spokesperson Guido Tonelli].

The 14 September 2017 photo was shot following a session of the Italian Physical Society in Trento on women in physics.

Significant progress was made since Marie Skłodowska Curie’s times to improve the representation and the careers of women in physics. Yet, a lot more can be done starting by giving women more visibility. That was one of the topics of the conference of the Italian Physical Society in Trento.
