Sankofa is a word in the Akan language of Ghana which encompasses the meaning:
“We must go back and reclaim our past, so that we can move forward, so that we can understand why and how we came to be who we are today.”
[Kwesi Kwaa Prah in Rukuni 2007]
Sankofa is a new term to me, and I’m smitten by its connotation.
