One of the biggest societal challenges that emerges as a result of a world influenced by social media is the consistent triumph of popular opinion over facts or well researched ones.

We have gotten to a point where were seek advice from popular people instead of experts [who are not popular].

We trust parenting advice more from a new celebrity parent instead of an unanimous mother who have parented successful grown kids.

The sad reality today is that just because you are popular, it means you are an expert in almost everything.

The challenge for those who deal with facts, thoughtful opinions, or [gasp] research is that the only way to be heard now is to improve their ability to sound popular.

And, that is a skill set that is generally not correlated with their existing strengths.

Ps: Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but those opinions may not necessarily be facts.
